(1993) Steven's football career started in 1993 at the age of 10, playing in the Wallisville Road Athletic Club for the Bulldogs football team. He wore #36, and played wide receiver and cornerback. The highlight of the season came when he returned a kickoff for 40 yards in a regular season game.Steven's coach nicknamed him "speedboat" for his speed he displayed on the football field.
(1995) In 1995 Steven went on to play for the 7th Grade "B" team at C. E. King Junior High. He started at wide receiver and cornerback on a team that went on to become district champions with a 7-0 record.
(1996) In 1996 Kennedy played runningback, and cornerback wearing #9 for the 8th grade "B" team at C. E. King Jr. High, that went 5-3 on the season. His best games of the season came against Gentry middle school, and Crosby middle school, in games where he gained a large amount of rushing yards.
(1997) 1997 was Kennedy's first year of high school football, playing wide receiver and cornerback wearing #87 for the freshman football team at C. E. King High School. The team went 7-3 on the season, and went on to become Bi-District champions. The highlight of the 1997 season came when Kennedy made a "crackback block" on a linebacker in a game against Galena Park High School. The block could be heard all over Crenshaw Stadium, and it also helped teammate Leon McCann get free for a touchdown.
(1998) In the 1998 season, Kennedy started at cornerback and wide receiver wearing #87 for the junior varsity football team at C. E. King High School that went 4-4 on the season. In 1998 Kennedy excelled at cornerback finishing the season with 2 interceptions. One interception came against Smiley High School while covering a receiver on a fly pattern. His second interception came against Forest Brook High School on October 29, 1998, in the closing seconds of the 4th quarter. The game was tied at 14-14 and Forest Brook had the ball on the 10-yard line in C. E. King territory. The ball was snapped and thrown in Kennedy's direction when he intercepted the pass in the endzone to end the game in a tie 14-14.
(1999) In 1999, Kennedy once again started at wide receiver and cornerback for the Junior Varsity football team at C. E. King High School. 1999 was a breakout year for Kennedy at wide receiver finishing the season with 3 catches for 85 yards (28.3 yards per rec) and 3 touchdowns. His longest catch came against Pearland HS in August of 1999 in a scrimmage, when quarterback Randy Paschke connected on a 60 yard pass to Kennedy for a touchdown. Against the Crosby Cougars, Kennedy caught his second touchdown pass of the season when quarterback Cedric Armstead found Kennedy in the endzone for the score. Kennedy caught his third touchdown of the season against the Channelview Falcons, when quarterback Marcus Washington connected on a pass to Kennedy in the endzone for the score.
(2000) In 2000, Kennedy's final football season at C. E. King High School, he played wide receiver and was a Gunner on the Punt Team along with starting cornerback Cedric Jackson, on the Varsity Football team. He finished the season with a solo tackle on special teams on kickoff coverage against Navasota HS. In a game against Waller HS in September 2000, Kennedy made a key block from his wide receiver position, to help quarterback Bashire Copeland score on a long touchdown run. Kennedy was also elected Team Captain along with teammates Trayshard Sorrell, and Michael Campbell, for the Homecoming game against Santa Fe HS on Oct. 6th 2000, C. E. King won the game 9-6.The team went 5-5 on the season. During his Senior football season, Kennedy was awarded the "Gatorade Will to Win Athlete Award" by coach Mike Malkowski. After high school, Kennedy played in the Houston Flag Football League (HFFL) in the Spring of 2005 with a flag football team called "The Future". He wore #87, the same number he wore all four years in high school, and played wide receiver and cornerback. During his football career, Kennedy was coached by Mike Malkowski, and Ernie Starnes at C. E. King High School.
